Growing up, I had always been complimented on my “perfect” skin. I had minimal acne issues and a natural glow requiring little maintenance. Because of this, I barely invested in skincare. Meaning that I don’t use products such as face masks, moisturisers, or toner. Instead, I’ve been relying solely on face wash and water to maintain my complexion. Which seemed to work well enough for me.
It wasn’t until I had a chance encounter with a promotional offer at My Cozy Room. A renowned boutique spa in Singapore, where I took my first leap into properly taking care of my skin. Priced at a reasonable $88* for first-time customers, their BeKind Signature Facial intrigued me. Even if I didn’t have any big skincare issues, I thought that I could still use a good facial to de-stress, so I decided to give it a try.
About This Guide
If you rarely get pimples, don’t have obvious pigmentation and generally like the way your complexion looks, booking a facial can feel unnecessary. After all, facials are often marketed around correcting something: acne, blackheads, dryness, dullness or signs of ageing.
Clear skin, however, doesn’t always mean there is nothing happening beneath the surface. You may still have small blackheads around the nose, whiteheads that are only noticeable up close, areas of dehydration or a skincare routine that could use some adjustment. On the other hand, genuinely balanced skin doesn’t need to be constantly treated simply because another month has passed.
This guide looks at whether you need a facial when your skin is already doing well, what a professional treatment can realistically add and how to decide whether maintenance facials are worthwhile for you.
Who Is This Guide For?
This guide is for anyone who considers their skin relatively clear and low-maintenance but is curious about professional facials.
Perhaps you’ve never had a facial because you’ve never experienced significant acne. You may have a very simple skincare routine that seems to work perfectly well, or you might be wondering whether regular facials could help maintain your complexion as you get older.
It is also useful if you’ve been told that everyone “needs” a facial every month and aren’t convinced your skin actually does.
There isn’t much value in creating a skin problem simply to have something to treat. If your complexion is comfortable, clear and well hydrated, the role of a facial is likely to be quite different from that of someone managing persistent congestion or acne.
Key Takeaways
- Clear skin doesn’t automatically mean your pores are completely free from blackheads or whiteheads.
- You don’t need to wait until you develop a major skin concern before having your first facial.
- A maintenance facial can focus on cleansing, gentle exfoliation, hydration and occasional extraction where necessary.
- A professional skin assessment may pick up dehydration or minor congestion that isn’t particularly obvious in everyday lighting.
- If your skin is already balanced, intensive extraction or aggressive exfoliation may be unnecessary.
- There is no rule saying healthy skin requires a facial every four weeks.
- Your home routine remains more important than relying on occasional professional treatments.
- Relaxation and enjoyment are perfectly reasonable reasons to book a facial, even when there isn’t a particular problem to correct.
Do You Actually Need a Facial If Your Skin Is Already Clear?
Having clear skin doesn’t automatically mean you need regular professional treatments. If your complexion is comfortable, reasonably well hydrated and rarely gives you trouble, your existing routine may already be doing a very good job.
A facial can still be useful, but the purpose is likely to be different. Rather than trying to correct acne or significant congestion, the appointment may be an opportunity to maintain the skin, deal with the occasional clogged pore and give it some extra hydration when needed.
This is also why we don’t think facials should follow exactly the same formula for everyone. Someone with a heavily congested T-zone may benefit from more time spent on extraction, while a client with generally clear skin might only have a few blackheads around the nose and need considerably less intervention elsewhere.
When the skin is already in good condition, there is little reason to keep pushing it with stronger exfoliation or unnecessary extraction. A lighter touch is often entirely appropriate.
Can You Have Clogged Pores Even If Your Skin Looks Clear?
Yes. Having clear skin usually means you aren’t dealing with obvious or frequent breakouts, but it doesn’t necessarily mean every pore is completely free from congestion.
Small blackheads and whiteheads can develop around the nose, forehead and chin without ever becoming red or inflamed. They may be barely noticeable in everyday lighting and only become apparent when the skin is examined more closely during a facial.
There is also the question of sebaceous filaments, which are particularly visible around the nose and are frequently mistaken for blackheads. They are a normal feature of the skin and help move sebum through the pores, so their presence isn’t a sign that your skin is dirty or unhealthy. They also naturally become visible again after being cleared.
In the BeKind Signature Facial experience featured in this article, for example, the writer had always considered her complexion largely problem-free but still discovered some small clogged pores and whiteheads during the treatment. It is a good reminder that clear skin can still have the occasional area that needs a little attention.
What Kind of Facial Does Clear Skin Need?
For a complexion that is already relatively balanced, we would generally keep things straightforward. Thorough cleansing, gentle exfoliation and good hydration can be enough, with extraction limited to blackheads or whiteheads that genuinely need removing.
The treatment can also be adjusted across different parts of the face. It is very common to have a slightly oilier, more congested nose while the cheeks are perfectly comfortable or even a little dehydrated. Treating the whole complexion as oily simply because there are a few blackheads in the T-zone can leave the areas that were doing well feeling unnecessarily stripped.
There is equally little reason to increase the strength of exfoliating acids or introduce intensive treatments simply because the skin has become accustomed to regular facials. If the complexion continues to look and feel good, maintaining that balance is a worthwhile result in itself.
And when there isn’t much to correct, you can simply enjoy the other parts of the appointment. A good facial and shoulder massage, extra hydration and an hour or two in a quiet treatment room can make a maintenance facial worthwhile without needing to invent a skin problem to justify it.
My BeKind Signature Facial Experience
True enough, the whole experience, lasting 1.5 hours, was worth every dollar. What’s even better was that I got to experience their brand new spa at Claymore Connect! Upon stepping into the spa, I was greeted by an all-white interior that takes inspiration from Victorian decor style. Beautiful golden wainscoting, as well as romantic dim lighting, is found throughout all the walls and rooms. It felt as if I stepped into an old-school European boutique hotel. The ambience was charming and cosy, as well as modern and luxurious.
The therapists were super friendly, and they carried out the entire facial treatment with great expertise and genuine hospitality. Every move exuded an oasis of tranquillity throughout the session. What sets My Cozy Room apart is their personalised approach, where they carefully curate their service based on the unique skin type of each customer.
Step 1: Remove eye & lip makeup
Before starting the treatment, my makeup was fully removed to clear my skin to make way for treatment.
Step 2: Skin Analysis
Afterwards, the therapist will give a quick breakdown on your skin type. She does this by explaining to you possible issues that may arise with your skin condition.
She noted that although my skin looks flawless from afar, up close, she could see mini clogged pores and whiteheads. It had accumulated all over my face, especially on my nose and forehead. This makes it important to carry out facial extractions to dig out impurities embedded within my pores for years. If left untreated, these could potentially become something worse, something I would never have thought about myself before.
Step 3 & 4: Double Cleansing using BeKind Milk Cleanser & BeKind Hydro Gel Cleanser
Here’s when the proper facial begins. My face was given a good, thorough cleanse using My Cozy Room’s BeKind Milk Cleanser. This was followed by their Hydro Gel Cleanser. These products help to deep cleanse the pores, and hydrate the skin before executing the subsequent steps of the treatment.
A luxurious in-house brand started by them, BeKind consists of a whole range of skincare products that are driven by meticulously-developed formulas made from hand-picked, cruelty-free ingredients.
Step 5: Gentle Exfoliation using Apple Stem Cell Renewal Peel
The next step was gentle exfoliation. This brings to mind another outstanding attribute of My Cozy Room’s service, which is their dedication to natural methods. In this case, their exfoliation process makes good use of natural ingredients such as their Apple Stem Cell Renewal Peel to enhance the process.
Step 6: Steaming of Face
Before the extraction process, my face was lightly steamed to open and expand my pores.
Step 7: Light Extraction for Removal of Blackheads
Now, you could say this is where the real work begins. Given that My Cozy Room’s most well-known treatment is their Ultimate Pore Extraction Facial, it’s clear that they would bring some of that expertise into this treatment as well through executing their signature manual extraction techniques. This helps to remove the layers of accumulated impurities and dead skin cells. The same things beneath the skin that, while hidden, can greatly clog your skin.
Through the therapist’s expert skills, a surprisingly sizable amount of blackheads were removed throughout my face, especially along my forehead, which I never knew existed in the first place!
Step 8: Application of BeKind Healing Toner
After the extraction process, it’s normal to feel a bit of pain on your skin, as well as for your face to experience slight redness for a while. That’s why their BeKind Healing Toner is applied right after the extraction, which helps to soothe the skin and prevent inflammation and scars.
Step 9: Eyebrow Shaping
Of course, My Cozy Room goes beyond conducting a regular facial. The therapist proceeds to do a simple shaping of my eyebrows – I guess this means I need not book an appointment to do my brows this month!
Step 10: Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage
You can’t have a good facial without experiencing a good massage. Just as well, the next item in the bucket list is the one I look forward to the most – the Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage, which makes use of an ultra-high frequency scrub.
Step 11: Soothing Crystal Ice Ball Facial Massage
To my delight, there were more comfortable massages to come. One of My Cozy Room’s signature practices is their crystal ice ball facial massage, where you will your face become as cool and refreshed as a cucumber.
Step 12: Facial Treatment Mask
Next up, it’s time to apply their facial treatment mask. Similar to what I experienced in the crystal ice ball massage, I felt my face feeling even more cool and refreshed as the therapist applied the mask all across my face.
Step 13: Anti-Stress Shoulder Massage
While the face mask was set to rest on my face, the therapist proceeded to give another massage, this time in the form of a good, powerful shoulder massage that helped to loosen my muscles and release the tension in my body.
Step 14: Finish with BeKind Hydra Soothing Toner and BeKind Sunshield SPF50
Alas, the facial has reached its end. To end off on a sweet note, the therapist applied their BeKind Hydra Soothing Toner, which helped to soothe my skin, and is filled with lots of collagen which helped my skin to look plump and radiant after the facial.
Afterwhich, she applied a thin layer of their BeKind Sunshield SPF50 sunscreen to protect my face from UV rays once I leave the premises, which is all the more crucial now given that we are experiencing a high index of UV rays.
Review of My BeKind Signature Facial Results at My Cozy Room
When I looked into the mirror after the treatment, I was surprised to see the result. My face was much clearer and smoother, much better than before. I even felt much fresher than before.
Even for someone with ‘perfect’ skin like me, I was amazed to see what a good facial can do to make my skin even more radiant and glowing than before.
I can strongly say that My Cozy Room has delivered an amazing skincare experience, further enhancing my skin in ways I never knew could happen. Whether you’re someone with pressing skin struggles, or you’re someone who doesn’t really invest in skincare but would like the occasional pampering once in a while, I’d highly recommend experiencing the BeKind Signature Facial Treatment at My Cozy Room!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a facial if I have perfect skin?
No facial is compulsory simply because you have skin. If your complexion is clear, comfortable and balanced, you may choose occasional facials for maintenance, hydration or relaxation rather than correcting a particular concern.
Can you have clogged pores even if you don’t have acne?
Yes. Blackheads and whiteheads can develop without causing obvious inflammatory acne, particularly around oilier areas such as the nose, forehead and chin.
How often should someone with clear skin get a facial?
There isn’t a fixed schedule. Approximately every six to eight weeks can be a reasonable starting point for maintenance, but some people with balanced skin may comfortably go longer.
Should clear skin still be extracted?
Only where there is suitable congestion to remove. There is no benefit in extensively extracting clear pores simply because extraction happens to be part of a facial.
Can facials keep my skin clear?
Facials can help manage congestion, hydration and texture, but they cannot guarantee that acne will never develop. Your daily skincare routine and individual skin biology continue to play a much larger role.
Is it worth getting a facial if I only have a few blackheads?
It can be, particularly if the blackheads are stubborn or you tend to squeeze them yourself. A facial can address suitable congestion while also providing cleansing, hydration and other maintenance care.
Is a facial worth it purely for relaxation?
Absolutely. Not every beauty treatment needs to correct a problem. If you enjoy facial and shoulder massage, the spa environment and having uninterrupted time to relax, that can be part of the value of the appointment.
So, Should You Get a Facial When Your Skin Is Already Good?
There is no skincare rule requiring you to book a facial simply because four or six weeks have passed.
If your complexion is clear, comfortable and you’re happy with it, your facial appointments can be occasional and uncomplicated. You may want some light pore cleansing, extra hydration or simply enjoy how your skin feels after a professional treatment.
The more interesting part of having your skin professionally assessed is sometimes discovering that what looks “perfect” from a normal distance still has its own small quirks: a congested nose, a few whiteheads across the forehead or areas that are more dehydrated than expected. That was precisely what happened in the original BeKind Signature Facial experience described in this article.
None of those findings means previously good skin was secretly unhealthy. They simply give you a little more information about your complexion and how to look after it.
And if the therapist looks closely and finds very little that needs correcting? That is a perfectly good outcome too.
