Differences Between Facial and Aesthetic Treatments

Our skin is one of the most crucial, most noticeable parts that define us as individuals. A feature people often take notice of the first time they meet somebody, and hence should require serious professional care and treatment. Even more so, when something goes wonky or off, or when one’s skin condition deteriorates.

It is insanely easy to acquire poor skin, especially in light of the global pandemic. Overly humid weather, friction from masks – the extremely inconvenient accessory each and every of us are made compulsory to wear, and even improper hydration and skincare.

These have been the major causes of clogged pores, and bad cases of acne we have seen in the customers that frequent our treatment centers. First impressions count. Accepting bad skin as something unavoidable, is the worst mentality. There is always something to do to improve the state of your skin. Getting professional help, therefore, is the step most would embark on.

There are two popular, main ways to get a skin fix. People often juggle between aesthetic and facial treatments, not knowing which to choose. While both are similar and often mistaken for each other, there are evident differences. Be informed and know exactly what you are in for.

Aesthetic Treatments

Aesthetic treatments are often done by a dermatologist, instead of a therapist. Often frequented by people who want professional expertise after seeing little to no results from home remedies or self-administered facial care, aesthetic treatments administer specific machine treatments to target specific skin needs.

More often than not aesthetic treatments use new dermatology technologies to enhance the skin of patients and renew and rejuvenate the skin. Using the likes of UV rays to lift one’s face, to specific laser technologies and even radio frequency technology for maximum cellular penetration, aesthetic treatments target specific needs of each patient to give an all rounded satisfaction for patients who want to see results fast. Functioning more as a source of professional skincare help, aesthetic treatments offer many solutions through the use of new-age technologies and methods to eradicate acne, blackheads, whiteheads, and any signs of facial skin deformities.

Depending on your specific needs, each treatment centre has their own methods, targeting your specific skin needs. Need more hydration in your skin, or slow down skin aging? There are specific treatments and cutting edge technologies to solve your various needs, to get you the specific results of a specific need you are searching for.

Facial Treatments

Facials, on the other hand, are a process. Varying from place to place, facials usually have the same protocols, varying only in the types of products used, and varying additional treatments offered. A facial cleanses, exfoliates, and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion and can help your skin look younger. You also receive advice on the best way to take care of your skin. This type of treatment is extremely popular, coming in second most popular after massages – and for good reason. Not only does one feel nourished after a facial, your skin benefits in totality, not just in one particular area. Below showcase the steps in the process of a typical facial appointment with a therapist.

Consultation

Something that occurs before every facial, one is required to fill up a form so the therapists are informed of  the client’s skin condition and concerns. Questions to be answered may vary – but here at My Cozy Room Spa, we have a fixed protocol. Some questions asked include whether or not you had done any cosmetic or laser surgery before, whether or not you have done deep skin peeling, the existence of any skin problems, or if you are pregnant. Further queries will be addressed, including checking on the main concern of our clients, and when the last facial took place. All these questions are important for an effective facial.

Cleansing

The treatment commences with in-depth cleansing, using cotton pads, wipes or sponges as well as facial massages along the way. Most professional facials do a double-cleanse using a foam cleanser. However, in My Cozy Room we start off right with BABOR’s Treatment High Oil Cleanser and BABOR’s Phytoactive Cleansing Plant-based essence that gently yet effectively eradicates impurities for clear skin. Using the most natural products nourishes the skin, and goes easy on all skin types.

Skin Analysis

Next would come what we call an analysis of the customer’s skin type. There are various types of skin, ranging from dry or oily, to a combination of both, to sensitive or normal skin. The therapist would further note other skin conditions like acne, blackheads, whiteheads, aging, sun-damage, dehydration, and point it out to you. Said therapist would then recommend the appropriate products and treatments and consult with you about what he or she sees and recommends. This way you know exactly what your skin needs, and how to ensure your skin is in top notch condition.

Steam Treatments and Exfoliation
In most facials, machines emitting thin vapours of steam to warm one’s face is used. This relaxes the client’s face and softens any blackheads and whiteheads prior to extraction. For clients with sensitive skin, steam may not be used as well. This process of steam treatment is followed by exfoliation, be it mechanical or chemical. My Cozy Room uses an enzyme mask in the form of chemical exfoliation that uses acids and enzymes to loosen skin cell bonds during steam. Skin cells would be peeled away to give way for the extraction afterwards.

Extraction Facial

The speciality of My Cozy Room, extractions refer to the removal of blackheads, whiteheads, acne and other types of facial blemishes. Extractions can be rather painful, or uncomfortable, especially to individuals with lower pain tolerance. However, fear not. My Cozy Room alters their treatments to suit different pain levels, and ensures there is minimal scarring. After the extraction, there is a free facial massage given by skilled therapists using classic strokes like effleurage to both relax clients and to stimulate their skin and facial muscles.

Facial Masks

A mask is targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition. My Cozy Room introduces a special alginate mask during treatments that gives the skin a supple, nourished finish, tightening it, and hydrating it after the extraction. Depending on skin condition, we have four main masks for clients. We use a detoxify mask for mixed and oily skin types, an Anti-Oxidant mask for dull and pigmented, aging skin, a Relieve mask for sensitive skin and an Anti-Stress Mask for dehydrated or mature skin. The therapist will tell you how she thinks you can take better care of your skin based on her experience, as well as give you products to take home after treatment.

Though both are pretty similar, aesthetic treatments and facial treatments vary in many ways. Needless to say, though both are extremely effective and allow your skin to improve immensely after every treatment, they differ in terms of process, as well as method. Aesthetic treatments are definitely more focused and specialised, targeting particular skin groups instead of your skin as a whole. However, facial treatments like the ones at My Cozy Room Spa not only targets your facial needs, they give a little extra as well.

In My Cozy Room Facial Spa, we have treatment perks that cannot be found in other dermatologist aesthetic clinics. The steam treatment together with exfoliation which helps to soften the whiteheads and blackheads are exclusive to facial treatments. Nourishing products like the alginate mask and anti-aging products cannot be found in aesthetic clinics, which use more machine-based technology to eradicate blemishes and remove acne from the skin. These products are crucial to facials, and helps tighten the skin, reduce aging, remove blackheads and whiteheads, and helps hydrate your face the old school way. Even better, here at My Cozy Room, we use only the best of the best to treat your skin like royalty. Additionally, facial, neck and shoulder massages are not found in aesthetic clinics, which only target the science of pigmentations and poor skin. In our spa, your skin gets to feel rejuvenated and younger after a relaxing experience with us where your skin is taken care of and pampered in just one session.

Why not give your skin the little extra? Why settle for one, when you can settle for both? With facial treatments, not only you get a good facial extraction unclogging all the pores on your face, you can pamper and rejuvenate your skin, and feel young again.
